Abiding Or Hiding

Are you abiding or hiding today? Are you abiding in peace, joy, and security today or are you hiding? Hiding from friends, family, self, and even trying to hide from God? What does the Bible say about hiding from God and His Spirit?

Psalm 139:7:  Where could I go from Your Spirit? Or where could I flee from Your presence?

Jeremiah 23:24:  Can anyone hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? says the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? says the Lord.

“We have been given a wonderful gift from God. That gift is life. What we do with this gift of life, is our gift back to God.”

We all experience many different kinds of tests and trials in life. These tests and trials are types of fire. Fire is not always bad and many good things can come from going through the fire. The choice of what happens in the fire is ours. We choose whether we will come through blazing with the glory of God or melted and burnt from the flames. What will you choose today? What did our foundation verse say?

Job 23:10  But He knows the way that I take; when He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

When gold is purified, it is put through fire. All the impurities rise to the surface where they are wiped away. All that is left is what is pure. In much the same way, when we go through fire, all our impurities rise to the top where they can be wiped away. There is a way to come through the fires not even smelling like smoke. It is by staying close to God. Let’s look at Isaiah 43: 1-3:

But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob,

     And He who formed you, O Israel:

     “Fear not, for I have redeemed you;

     I have called you by your name;

     You are Mine.

2    When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;

 And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.

When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,

     Nor shall the flame scorch you.

3     For I am the Lord your God,

     The Holy One of Israel, your Savior…

     I gave Egypt for your ransom,

     Ethiopia and Seba in your place.

There is no reason to be afraid when you realize what God has done for you. He formed you (v. 1). When you trusted Jesus Christ, God redeemed you (v. 1).He knows your name (v. 1). What a privilege to belong to such a great and gracious God! Even more, God promises to bring you through the water and the fire (v. 2). HE is your Lord, God, and Savior (v.3). Perhaps the three Hebrew heroes claimed this promise when they faced the fiery furnace (See Daniel 3).

In the Bible there is a wonderful passage that speaks about the benefits of abiding. It is found in the Gospel of St. John, Chapter 15:1-11.

15     “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”

Notice that the word “abide” is mentioned 9 times in this passage of Scripture. I would venture to say that must be important to God. And if it is important to God, it should be important to us.

This passage tells us that we need to abide in Him. We need to stay close to Him. When we abide in Christ, we will produce much fruit. And even when we produce fruit, we still need to be pruned by the Master Gardener so we can produce even better fruit.

Abiding is focusing on God instead of yourself. It is in trusting Him to make your life all that it can be. To “abide” means to stay where you are. We have been placed in Christ; that is our position. In our daily walk, we should stay in intimate fellowship with the Lord. A branch abides in a vine by drawing all its life and nourishment from the vine. So we abide in Christ by spending time in prayer, reading and obeying His Word, fellowshipping with His people, and being continually conscious of our union with Him.

As we maintain constant contact with Him, we are conscious of His abiding in us and supplying us with spiritual strength and resources. The branch can only bear fruit as it abides in the vine. The only way we can bear the fruit of a Christ-like character is by living in touch with Christ moment by moment.

Abiding depends on obeying, and obeying depends on loving. Love and joy both go together and make it very easy for us to obey His will for us. We should love Him, love His will for us, and we should love one another.

When we abide in Him, we are continuously focused on Him. HE then is first place in our lives, where HE is supposed to be. As God, HE is to be above all people and things. That is why the Bible tells us in Matthew 6:33: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”  Revelation warns us not to leave our first love.

Let’s look at 1John 4:16:  “And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.”

So we see that from this verse that when we abide in love we are abiding in God and God is in turn abiding in us. I want you to see and understand something from this. See not only your part in abiding. But we need to also realize that it is God abiding in us! The more we are able to do that, the more we are able to walk in complete victory.

Now lets look briefly at some things that can prevent us from walking in victory. One of the things that we can do to hinder all that we have been called to do is to ‘hide.’ When we become afraid and live in fear, it is crippling. It prevents us from doing what God has called for us to do.

The Bible tells us in I Peter 5:8-9: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.”

God has told us this in His Word so we would be prepared. HE did not want to leave us hopeless or defenseless. In His Word we have all the weapons we need to stand strong and fight. In Ephesians Chapter 6 we are told to put on the whole armor of God so we can stand against the wiles of the devil.

So lets not hide. Lets not cower afraid of the day and what may happen. Lets fight the good fight. Lets hold onto our faith. Lets NOT let the enemy have the victory. We are not supposed to agree with the enemy, we are to agree with the Word of God, that says we are more than conquerors through Christ.

If you think that staying home and hiding is going to make things ok, I want to tell you that it is not. If you are hurting, I want to encourage you to reach out to those who can and want to help you. Reach out to me, I will be there to help you. We can pray together. There is so much power in prayer. The enemy shakes and quakes when we come together to pray. Prayer is a mighty force and when it is done in faith, it is a mighty force to bring down strongholds.

God wants to see you well, to see you strong, and to see you finish your race. So do I. We can all do it together. Don’t walk in defeat another day. Don’t stay in depression and sadness. God wants you well and wants to use what you have gone through to minister to someone else. You see, no one will know that they can get through what they are going through unless someone tells them “God helped me get through this and HE will help you too.”

The Bible tells us in John 10:10: “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).”

See, that is what God wants for you. To have and enjoy life, in abundance, to the full, till it overflows! How wonderful is that?! And we can. We just need to stop hiding, and we need to start abiding. Abide in Him, in His love, His protection, His grace and mercy.

There is a wonderful verse in the Bible that I have so come to love. It is in the Amplified Bible.

It is found in Luke 1:37:

“For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment.”

This verse should really encourage you. Let God show you today how He feels about you as you open up your Bible. He will give you such wonderful gifts found in His Holy Word. But the only way you will know, is if you open up your Bible and read what it says.

Our focus is so important to how our day will go. You see, the Lord wanted us to know that we would go through tests, trials, and fires in this life. HE wanted us to know that there would be others who would want to hurt us or possibly abuse and use us. HE wanted us to know so that we would be prepared, and so that we would go and tell others of His wondrous love.

We cannot always know what we are going to be facing, but we can be prepared. No matter what you may be facing today, it is your choice whether you will abide in Him and have peace, or hide and let the enemy beat you up. The choice is always ours. What will be your choice today?

Will  you pray this prayer with me today:

Father, I choose to abide in You today. I make a conscience choice to abide in You. I long to stay close to Your heart. I long to be filled to overflowing with Your Presence. I am learning that I am the one that determines whether I succeed or not. I am the one that determines if my day is one filled with peace or one that is spent trying to hide from life. I need You and want You to be close to me, so I open my heart to You now. I cannot make it today without You and Father, I do not want to do anything without You. You are my Source for all my needs and I rely on You alone. May I be ever mindful and aware of the choices that I make today and the affects it will have on me.

I thank You now for Your peace, comfort, and love. Bless Your Holy Name. I am so thankful for what You are doing in me and through me. May I be found to be a vessel of honor to be used by You today. In Jesus’ Holy Anointed Name I ask and pray and give You thanks. Amen. So be it.

Until next time Beloved, know that you are loved, valued, and appreciated, by God and by me.

Much love and hugs,
